ABOUT US

Gallery Afternoon opened in May 2021 in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, with the mission of serving as a dynamic platform for contemporary art. Since then, the gallery has focused on identifying and nurturing emerging Korean artists, offering not only exhibition opportunities but also strategic guidance to support sustainable career growth.

The gallery’s journey began with its inaugural exhibition by Kim Heesoo, followed by a compelling lineup of promising new voices such as Kim Seulgi, Qwaya, Park Jiyoung, Ahn Sohee, and Hezin. Hosting 8 to 10 solo and group exhibitions annually, Gallery Afternoon has steadily built its reputation as a platform showcasing fresh perspectives to both local and international audiences.

From the outset, the gallery has pursued an ambitious global vision, actively supporting artists in expanding their presence beyond Korea. Starting with Ibiza, its reach has extended to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Jakarta, New York, and Miami, opening meaningful pathways for artists to connect with diverse art markets worldwide. In 2023, Gallery Afternoon operated a year-long pop-up space in Paris, enabling Korean artists to engage directly with European audiences and broaden their international footprint. Highlights include Kim Heesoo’s 2021 exhibition, attracting approximately 30,000 visitors over three months, and his subsequent recognition at Art Busan (2022) and CAN ART IBIZA (2022).

We also take pride in discovering painter Park Jiyoung, born in the 1980s, whose work has received remarkable acclaim from collectors worldwide, including in the United States and China. In addition, Gallery Afternoon actively supports the careers of Korea’s new generation of female artists — including Park Jiyoung, Ahn Sohee, and Hezin — fostering their growth and elevating their presence on the global stage.

Our commitment extends beyond exhibitions — we collaborate closely with artists to develop long-term strategies for advancing their international careers.

In April 2025, Gallery Afternoon opened its permanent space in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, a vibrant district at the heart of Seoul’s creative industries. This expansion marks a new chapter in our mission: to strengthen the global presence of our artists while continuing to identify, foster, and showcase exceptional talent from Korea and across Asia.
