Artist Beomju Ko

Gallery Afternoon is pleased to present Beomju Ko’s solo exhibition 《Echoes of Absence》, on view from December 12 to 26, 2025.

The exhibition imagines a future Earth long after humanity has left. Through the eyes of TRAVI, a lone figure wandering a planet turned to desert, we follow the traces of spacecraft once built for humanity’s great escape. Among these massive ruins, TRAVI discovers small, quiet signs of life beginning to grow.

Rather than giving a warning or a message, Ko invites viewers to see the present from a viewpoint five centuries away, distant enough to feel unfamiliar, yet still connected to us.

In scenes where heavy wreckage meets a single yellow flower, visitors are encouraged to step into the empty spaces and make their own interpretations.

We welcome you to explore these calm, post-human landscapes, where silence lingers, and hope appears in simple, unexpected ways.

Artist’s Note

We move every day toward something better, reaching for higher skies and deeper space. But what might Earth look like five hundred years after all those dreams have passed?

My work begins through the eyes of TRAVI, a lone being left on an empty, desert-like planet after humanity has gone. TRAVI encounters the huge remains of spacecraft—once humanity’s last hope—left behind during our attempt to reach another world. In this distant future, these broken machines have become shelters for a single yellow flower growing out of the barren ground.

In this exhibition, I am not trying to teach or warn. Instead, I want to look at our present from a faraway point in time, five centuries ahead.

This project is a record of a world after its end, and a short story about hope that appears even in absence. Like scenes from a film, each work invites viewers to step into the empty spaces left behind and fill them with their own memories, thoughts, and interpretations.
